Home See The FACTS On Methadone Treatment Back
“In 1992, in a resolution adopted by the membership at the annual meeting, VMS supported appropriate state efforts to make methadone maintenance treatment available for use in conjunction with other wrap-around treatment modalities for opiate addiction.”
Issue Number 00-8
April 2000
“On
April 17, 2000 under the leadership of John Chard, M.D., President of the
Vermont Medical Society, 18 physician and medical student leaders met with
Governor Howard Dean, for a thoughtful and very informative dialog on issues
important to Vermont physicians and their patients. At the invitation of
Governor Dean, the Council of the Vermont Medical Society identified three key
issues to be highlighted, at what we believe, will be the first of many lengthy
discussions. Specific issues, which have been identified as priorities by the
full membership of the VMS, include public funding of medical services in
Vermont (Medicare and the Medicaid, VHAP, and Dr. Dynosaur Programs); access
to methadone in Vermont; and the licensing of lay-midwives. The participants
were asked to consider these issues and to prepare for a wide-ranging discussion
on matters of interest to the Governor. “
